Things start happening and one of the first real bits of colour for the upcoming year is the sprouting broccoli and cauliflower and cabbages. Jerusalem artichokes are one of these strange vegetables that seem to scare people due to their knobbly nature, if you have avoided them, stop and delight in them mashed, roasted, stir fried or in a simple soup. Guinea fowl has fallen out of favour in Britain, it was once a common dish, though it can dry out a bit too easily, it is fantastic in a casserole.
