Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru, Côte de Beaune, Vincent Girardin 2006
Tracing his roots in the region back to the 17th century, Vincent Girardin was born in Santenay and started modestly with two hectares in 1982. Having since inherited his father's vineyards he has gone from strength to strength, even making it into the Wine Spectator's top 100. This Corton reminds us why so many people fell in love with Chardonnay and why Burgundians still make the best examples. A very good year in Burgundy and drinking well now but will improve. (Chardonnay)..

BORDEAUX
Château Talbot, Cru Classé, St Julien, 2006
Allegedly named after the general who lost Aquitaine to the French, maybe because he went into battle having sworn not to bear arms against them. Talbot is now run by the daughters of the formidable Jean Cordier. (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot).

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine du Grand Tinel, 2009
Châteauneuf-du-Papeis firmly entwined with history, dating back to 1308. Viticulture of the area had been initiated and maintained by the Bishops of Avignon, largely for local consumption.
